Overview
Filladhoo is one of the beautiful inhabited islands of Haa Alif Atoll in the north of the Maldives.
Haa Alifu Atoll, along with the adjacent reef waters, forms a 6,000 ha Important Bird Area (IBA), designated as such by BirdLife International because it supports a population of some 15,000 lesser noddies. This area as also popular for under water beauty.
The Island is in the northernmost administrative division of the Maldives, closest to Sri Lanka and India. The atoll has 42 islands, with 14 of them being inhabited, along with 3 tourist resorts and numerous uninhabited islands.
The island of Utheemu is famous as the birthplace of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, a national hero who fought against the Portuguese in the 16th century. This island Utheemu is located in Haa Alif Atoll where Filadhoo is located.
The North and West parts of the atoll are excellent for beginner divers, with sheltered dive sites and channels where you can spot rays, lobsters, and lionfish. The atoll offers various water activities like snorkeling and fishing. Ideal for deep sea fishing and reef fishing like Night Fishing adventures
In the island and around the other islands nearby visitors can enjoy local cuisine, traditional dances, and festivals during certain holiday periods. Tourist can explore how people live in these islands, dine local foods and enjoy sightseeing inside the islands.
The Filadhoo island has a huge beach around the island where guest can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, beach walking, Dip walking in soft white sands and in reef exploring at sunset. Tourists can explore the nature, walk around the natural vegetation explore unharmful friendly species. In 1963 there was a shipwreck in Filladhoo. This area is called “Filladhoo Reck” which is now a famous diving point in Maldives.
